Welcome to Writing With Style, a monthly feature that combines books with fashion. I recommend beauty products or clothing with a literary theme – consider it a style guide for librarians and writers. I don’t receive any money for recommendations I make. Check out other posts, like bookish sweaters or literary nail art, here.
Today, we’re talking about tattoos, both of the temporary and permanent variety. I am extremely indecisive and I have a low pain tolerance, so a tattoo isn’t in my future, but this art form is a creative way to show your love for reading and writing. (After all, all three of those things involve ink!) So, for us needle-fearers, I’ve included a couple of temporary tattoos. They’re not just for kids anymore!
Check out my literary tattoo ideas, and tell me in the comments what you think.
Temporary
1. To Ink Or Not To Ink?
I just read Hamlet for a school assignment. I prefer seeing Shakespeare’s plays, but I still enjoyed reading it. I’d say more, but after all, brevity is the soul of wit!
2. Semicolons
The semicolon tattoo is actually a symbol in the mental health community, as it represents a chance the author had to end a sentence but decided to keep going. Show your support and your love of punctuation with this tattoo.
3. Realistic Harry Potter

These are some of the coolest Harry Potter tattoos I’ve seen. They’re so realistic!
4. Jane
When you need a reminder of who you really are.
5. Book Lover
Take the magic with you with a fun book tattoo!
Permanent
1. Harry Potter Stars
These three iconic stars are a symbol of the Harry Potter series.
2. The Fault In Our Stars
For any hopeless romantics. (It’s okay, I cried at the end of The Fault In Our Stars too.)
3. Typewriter
Get a typewriter. And make it personal by writing a message on the paper!
4. Reading Gives Us Wings
The cheapest flight you’ve ever had. Read a book.
5. Galaxy Of Reads
Because there’s a world of reading out there.
Not so much of a literary reference though the lyrics are funny, the Who: Tattoo

Woah those realistic Harry Potter tattoos look so realistic! Forget drawing a lightning bolt on your face with a Sharpie, you could just get a temporary tattoo (or a permanent one if you’re a very, very die hard fan I guess? I wonder if there are people who have a permanent lightning bolt tattooed on their face 😂)
I don’t think I’ll ever get a tattoo, I’m too much of a scaredy-cat and I get bored of things quickly. Definitely don’t want to get bored of something permanent on my body haha (I know you can get it removed but that’s also painful and pain is a big nope for me haha) I like the idea of temporary literary tattoos though!

I feel the same way! I’m way to “iffy” about things to ever get an actual tattoo, but temporary tattoos seem to offer all the thrills without any of the pain.
